PRESENTATION

Since several decades, the strong increase of human demography along with technical development and the land exploitation and of its natural resources determined significant environmental changes and concerning losses in biodiversity, especially in tropical regions.

Since 20 years, I work at characterizing wildlife habitat and plant species diversity and I contribute in putting up conservation methods and actions in order to preserve our natural heritage and botanical species resulting from billions years life evolution providing wild strands of cultivated plants, highly divers material (wood, fibers, resins, gums, lacquers…), medication, ornamentals …

My studies and researches since 1996 for many public institutions (ORSTOM / IRD, MNHN, DEAL-GUYANE, International department-National Botanical Conservatory in Brest, NPCS-Mauritius...) and as a consultant for private companies (GLAXO-SMITHKLINE, CLARINS Laboratories, ALBAN MULLER International, PIERRE FABRE Pharmaceutical, ASARCO, SRK Consulting, SURALCO, IN VIVO Environment, ESS SURINAME, ...) allowed me to acquire and knowledge and practical experience of societal stakes in wildlife habitat and species conservation and management.

I have a Master in Organism and Population Biology (MSc at Pierre & Marie Curie - Paris Universitas) and a PhD in tropical botany (Paris National Museum of Natural History).

University teacher in botany, plant biology and physiology and conservation sciences since 2005 at the Southern Brittany University (UBS-Vannes) and at the Western Brittany University (UBO-Brest) since 2010 for Master and Licence course lectures, practical works and field studies, I also contribute to public awareness (conferences) and to knowledge diffusion through scientific publications (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9), specialized and popularization papers (7).

Understanding life’s evolution, adaptation processes, changes in terrestrial and coastal environments resulting of increasing mankind activities and figuring most relevant ways to manage natural resources and to efficiently protect biodiversity is the core of my commitment and durable involvement.

PROTECTED SPECIES, RED LISTS, WILDLIFE INTEREST AREAS

Since 1994, I have worked with the Regional Scientific Comity for Nature Protection in French Guiana (CSRPN de Guyane) to define determination criteria for species requiring conservation statuses, to put up the 2001 Protected Species List (4). Since 2009, I have worked on ranking the conservation stakes for the 6500 plant species in Guyane and to put up the Red List of threatened plants for ted by IUNC. I have also participated to botanical inventories for the up dating of Wildlife Ecological, Fauna and Flora Interest Areas (ZNIEFF) of Guyane and contributed to inventorying and mapping wetlands in Finistère, Brittany, France.

Since 2017, I contribute to the french Conseil National de la Protection de la Nature (CNPN) as a intuitu personæ member, holder at the plenary and to the Espèces et communautés biologiques Commission (ECB) from 2017 to 2022, and since april 2022 holder at the Espaces protégés Commission (CEP, Protected areas) ) and président of the Flora, Fungi, Wildlife Habitats and National Botanical Conservatories Work group (GT FFH-CBN) .

FIELD CONSERVATION PROGRAMS

I have led transplantation operations of protected species in French Guiana (Prefecture authorizations) in the frame of mitigation measures for a mining project, then, along with the  National Botanical Conservatory in Brest where I was project manager from 2009 to 2015, I have contributed to the repatriation in their homeland of several rare plant species from Mauritius, for their acclimatization and reintroduction as well as the rescue of Ekman’s Junipers, a critically endangered tree species from Haiti (paper submitted) presently cultivated with in vitro techniques.

I have lead over 40 overseas field missions in the frame of botanical researches and studies and mentored several field training courses in tropical regions for Licence and Master students (NR2001, JL, SG 2004, ML2009-2010).
